Overview 

Hawk Week Leaders are a team of volunteers who help create an inclusive and positive welcome to all incoming Jayhawks. They act as positive role models and encourage new students to participate and be involved throughout Hawk Week. All students are encouraged to apply to be Hawk Week Leaders and illustrate what it means to be a part of the Crimson and Blue community!

What Makes A Hawk Week Leader?

  • Currently enrolled student at KU who is in good disciplinary standing.
  • Preferred minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Completed – before the start of the fall 2022 semester – a minimum of 24 credit hours at KU.
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Exhibits the Jayhawk values and spirit.
  • Enthusiastic about connecting with new students and creating a positive welcome experience.

Responsibilities & Duties 

  • Attending all Hawk Week mandatory, signature, and assigned events throughout Hawk Week.
  • Attending Hawk Week Leader Training(s).
  • Serving as the primary workforce behind the implementation of Hawk Week 2022 by guiding, connecting, and serving as a resource to new students throughout the Hawk Week program.
  • Assisting KU campus offices and departments during their events throughout Hawk Week.
  • Assisting in cultivating a sense of belonging for incoming new students.
  • Developing and demonstrating team leadership, responsibility, and effective communication skills through inclusive language and appreciation of diversity and difference in new students.

Volunteer Terms 

The official period of volunteering will be during the month of August 2022. Hawk Week Leaders must remain in good academic standing during their affiliation with the Center for Orientation & Transition Programs. They are also expected to exhibit behavior appropriate to KU and civil regulations, demonstrate good customer service skills, fully participate in Hawk Week Leader trainings, and provide feedback and concerns to staff of any kind.
